Agricultural Technology: Drop height monitoring

mic-130/IU/M measures the distance between the conveyor belt and the stacked potatoes. To ensure that the potatoes are stored in the potato bunker from a low drop height, the control system regulates the elevator according to the distance values.

Agricultural technology: fill level control in the loading bunker

lcs+340/IU continuously measures the fill level in the loading bunker of the beet harvester. The aim is to avoid overfilling the bunker in order to prevent an interruption to the harvest.

Agricultural technology: Height adjustment of the field sprayer

Field sprayer booms can have a working width of up to 42 m. Several wms-340/RT ultrasonic sensors are mounted on these booms. The sensors measure the distance between the boom and the crop. During driving, the control unit uses the measured distance values to compensate for uneven ground or different plant heights. This allows pesticides or fertilizers to be distributed evenly across the field.

Battery industry: single-layer control

When manufacturing lithium-ion batteries, it is crucial that the electrode foils, anode, cathode and, if necessary, a separator foil, are always stacked alternately. The anode typically consists of graphite, while the cathode is made of lithium metal oxides. A gripper alternately picks up the cathode and anode and joins them together to form a stack or battery pack.

The ultrasonic double-sheet control dbk+4 on the gripper ensures that only one layer of foils is gripped at a time. The sensor detects without contact whether there is no layer present, a single layer is present or a double layer or several electrode foils are stuck together. In the event of an error message or incorrect stacking, the stacking process is interrupted and the production process is corrected. Error-free stacking helps to ensure that high-quality battery packs are produced. The non-contact single-layer control also protects the sensitive electrode foils.

dbk+4/3CDD/M18 E+S monitors the incoming sheets at the feeder of a sheet-fed printing press. Two or more superimposed sheets must be detected to avoid an unwanted paper jam at the printing press.

In a packaging machine, plastic trays are sealed with a self-adhesive film. The esf-1/CDF/A label sensor is mounted close to the dispensing edge. It reliably detects the transparent films with changing colours and reports a missing sealing film in the packaging process.

Wind energy: Level measurement in lubricant tanks of wind turbines

The reliability of wind turbines is crucial for energy production. The moving parts of wind turbines have several mechanical bearings, the lubrication of which makes an important contribution to trouble-free operation. With the cube-35/FFIU , the filling level in the lubricant tanks is continuously monitored so that there is always sufficient lubricant for long-term operation. In addition, the agitator in the lubricant tanks is specifically masked by the ultrasonic sensor with the new interference echo suppression function.

Mobile machines: Level control in stone crushers and screening plants

Mobile rock crushers are used for the extraction of rock. Rock is crushed in the stone crushers or crushing plants. The rock is fed into the crushing hopper and crushed until the rock falls out through the gap. The mic-130/IU/M continuously measures the filling level in the crushing hopper of the rock crusher to ensure that the rock does not jam in the feed. The aim is to prevent the hopper from becoming blocked.

Packaging industry: precise web edge control

In a packaging machine, the bks+6/FIU/A web edge sensor detects the material edge of various packaging films, papers or other sound-impermeable materials. The material is unwound from a roll and fed through the processing machine. The bks+6/FIU/A uses ultrasound to detect the position of the material edge, so that the control system can adjust the web path during production based on the analogue value. As a result, the material web always remains precisely on track, resulting in higher product quality and lower reject rates.
